Focus Group

Visual Art

Visual artists help make the landscape of Louisville brighter and more interesting and are a core component of the arts community in Louisville. In order to better understand the wants and needs of the visual arts community a focus group was held on March 31st at Louisville Visual Art, and was attended by 10 local visual artists.

Some of the challenges and needs we heard were:

  • Challenges in accessing resources and gaining visibility

  • Necessity of a centralized database to improve communication and accessibility

  • Bridging the generational gap among artists

  • Marketing

  • Importance of increased city support

  • Leveraging existing events to elevate the profile of Louisville's visual arts

Ideas presented include:

  • A centralized event calendar to improve communication and accessibility

  • Collaboration between institutions as a key strategy for growth

  • Additional affordable studio space, possibly in underutilized Metro spaces

  • Expanded exhibition opportunities in public spaces

  • Let the art lead and bring horses and bourbon along
