Focus Group
Visual Art
Visual artists help make the landscape of Louisville brighter and more interesting and are a core component of the arts community in Louisville. In order to better understand the wants and needs of the visual arts community a focus group was held on March 31st at Louisville Visual Art, and was attended by 10 local visual artists.
Some of the challenges and needs we heard were:
Challenges in accessing resources and gaining visibility
Necessity of a centralized database to improve communication and accessibility
Bridging the generational gap among artists
Marketing
Importance of increased city support
Leveraging existing events to elevate the profile of Louisville's visual arts
Ideas presented include:
A centralized event calendar to improve communication and accessibility
Collaboration between institutions as a key strategy for growth
Additional affordable studio space, possibly in underutilized Metro spaces
Expanded exhibition opportunities in public spaces
Let the art lead and bring horses and bourbon along
